Punjab Launches First Anti-Smog Gun Operation in Lahore, Reduces Air Pollution by 70% in Kahna

The Punjab government has initiated its first anti-smog gun operation in Lahore, marking a significant advancement in its efforts to combat the region’s escalating air pollution crisis. The operation was launched in the Kahna area and has already shown substantial results, with air pollution levels reportedly reduced by 70% according to official data.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb shared a video of the operation on X, describing the initiative as a major success in the government’s ongoing environmental campaign. She stated that, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Kahna dropped dramatically—from a hazardous level of 666 to 170—shortly after the deployment of anti-smog guns.

The minister noted that this reduction has been verified through scientific analysis using the province’s advanced environmental monitoring systems. She highlighted the government's unwavering focus on public health, stating that the deployment of modern technology is a central part of Punjab’s strategy to mitigate the harmful effects of smog.

The anti-smog gun, which sprays fine mist into the air to capture particulate matter and settle dust, is now a key tool in the government’s broader approach to improving air quality. This intervention is especially critical as Lahore and nearby regions enter the winter season, when smog levels typically surge due to dry weather, industrial emissions, crop burning, and increased vehicular pollution.

This operation is part of a wider environmental initiative aimed at reducing air pollution and its health impacts on the population. Authorities are expected to expand the use of anti-smog guns to other areas of the city and continue monitoring AQI levels closely to assess the long-term effectiveness of the strategy.
