Rawalpindi is set to introduce its first-ever electric bus service, with the official launch expected later this month. The project, part of the Punjab government's push toward sustainable urban development, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and marks a major step in bringing eco-friendly public transportation to the city.

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi shared the update while speaking to the Rawalpindi Traders Association, describing the electric bus service as a significant upgrade to the city’s mobility infrastructure. The new system is designed to offer a safer, more comfortable, and cost-effective travel option for daily commuters, particularly benefiting working professionals, women, and students who depend on public transport.

The initiative reflects the broader vision of the Punjab government to create a cleaner and more efficient transport network. By replacing conventional fuel-powered buses with electric vehicles, the project is expected to ease traffic congestion and contribute to better air quality in the city by reducing harmful emissions.

The announcement was made in the presence of senior figures including Federal Parliamentary Secretary Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry, MPA Ziaullah Shah, Sardar Naseem, and local business leaders. The event also highlighted ongoing infrastructure developments in Rawalpindi, with Abbasi crediting both federal and provincial leadership for supporting projects such as the Metro Bus system, new educational institutions, and vocational training centers.

In a related development, Abbasi noted that a delegation from Saudi Arabia is expected to visit Pakistan soon to explore new avenues for investment, signaling growing international confidence in the country’s economic direction. The launch of the electric bus service is seen not only as a milestone in public transport but also as part of a broader effort to modernize urban living and attract foreign partnerships.
