Biman Bangladesh Airlines is set to expand its direct operations to Pakistan after receiving approval from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to operate three weekly flights, adding a third service on the Dhaka–Karachi route. The airline will evaluate passenger demand, market conditions, and other commercial factors before confirming the additional frequency. Currently, Biman operates two weekly flights between Dhaka and Karachi using a Boeing 737.

The expansion follows the recent resumption of direct air travel between Pakistan and Bangladesh after a 14-year suspension. On January 29, Biman’s inaugural Dhaka-to-Karachi flight arrived at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, where it was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute. The flight departed Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:15pm and landed in Karachi at 11:03pm. Senior officials from both countries, including Bangladesh’s civil aviation and tourism adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin and Pakistan’s high commissioner to Bangladesh Imran Haider, attended the departure ceremony.

Officials emphasized the route’s significance in enhancing connectivity, tourism, and people-to-people contacts. Bangladesh’s aviation leadership indicated that Biman plans to gradually increase flight frequency and reduce fares to make travel more accessible. Pakistan’s high commissioner linked the relaunch to ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral ties, noting that discussions had focused on immediate steps to resume direct flights. Passengers on the first flight welcomed the restoration of the air link, calling it a major step toward closer relations between the two countries.
