The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has introduced a new requirement for Pakistanis traveling abroad for employment: an affidavit signed by a Grade 18 or 19 government officer. The policy, reported by The Express Tribune, aims to curb illegal migration and human trafficking incidents involving passengers who initially travel to Gulf countries such as Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Thailand before attempting to reach Europe through irregular routes like Libya or Baku.
According to an FIA immigration officer at Lahore Airport, only travelers who present an affidavit verified by a senior government officer will be permitted to depart. To support the process, the Protectorate of Emigrants has stationed inspectors at major airports to verify documents and assist genuine overseas workers.
Officials noted that passengers traveling under the Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) are being cleared without delays, while those associated with private overseas recruitment agencies undergo additional verification steps. The new rule is part of a broader effort to ensure the safety of Pakistani workers and maintain compliance with international migration standards.
