Pakistan Government Makes Overseas Work Registration Mandatory for Citizens

Pakistan has implemented a new policy that will change the process for citizens planning to work abroad. Effective from 19 November, all Pakistanis intending to take up employment in other countries must complete a mandatory registration before travelling. The government emphasizes that this step is aimed at protecting workers and maintaining accurate records of those seeking jobs overseas.

Under this policy, the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis has connected all foreign work permissions to a centralized digital platform. Workers who do not complete this registration will not receive the required approvals, such as the protector stamp or other official documentation needed to leave the country for employment purposes. This applies to individuals heading to popular destinations like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman.

Officials have stated that the measure is designed to combat illegal travel, fraudulent job offers, and exploitation by human traffickers. By gathering detailed information about workers in advance, the government aims to create a safer and more transparent system. Applicants are required to provide personal identification, travel information, educational records, and details about the employment they plan to undertake abroad.

This new rule will affect thousands of Pakistanis who depend on overseas work to support their families. For many young professionals seeking higher incomes, completing this registration will now be the first and essential step in the process. Authorities stress that the registration is intended not to create obstacles but to ensure that every Pakistani leaving for work abroad is properly documented, protected, and traceable. Citizens are advised to complete the registration early to avoid delays in their travel and employment plans.
