Northern Saudi Arabia witnessed an unusual and rare snowfall, turning parts of Tabuk and the Trojena Mountains into a winter wonderland that attracted residents and tourists eager to experience skiing, picnics, and the icy scenery. The Trojena Highlands, located in the NEOM region, were covered in snow, transforming peaks rising about 2,600 metres above sea level into striking white landscapes. Snow also spread across the mountains of Tabuk, where families and tourists flocked to high-altitude picnic spots to enjoy the unique scenery. Social media was flooded with photos and videos showing snow-covered rocky slopes and even camels standing in a snowy desert, creating extraordinary and viral visuals.
The Saudi Press Agency highlighted the excitement generated by the snowfall, noting how the cold conditions provided a stark contrast to the Kingdom’s usual desert climate and emphasized the diversity of Saudi Arabia’s geography. Authorities have issued weather warnings for several regions, including Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Makkah, and Madinah, where thunderstorms, rain, and strong winds are expected. Fog may affect Riyadh, the Eastern Province, the Northern Borders, Al-Jawf, and Tabuk, while coastal areas could experience rough seas, particularly near Bab al-Mandab.
Despite the weather risks, the snowfall has brought joy and amazement to locals and visitors, offering a rare chance to witness one of Saudi Arabia’s most unusual winter events in recent years. Children and adults alike have celebrated the snow, capturing the moments as a memorable natural phenomenon in the Kingdom.
