Kuwait’s Ministry Issues Warning to Parents Over Choking Hazard Linked to Popular ‘Labubu’ Doll

Kuwait’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry has issued a nationwide recall of the popular Labubu toy due to a manufacturing defect that poses a choking hazard for children. The ministry stated that certain parts of the toy can detach easily, creating a risk of suffocation if swallowed.

Consumers have been advised to stop using the toy immediately and return it to the authorized distributor for a full refund. The recall process is being carried out under Kuwait’s Consumer Protection Law No. 39 of 2014. Parents or guardians who need assistance can contact Hussein Abdullah EST at 96000010 or 56539540 for more information on the return procedure.

The Labubu toy, created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung and produced by Chinese retailer Pop Mart, is a collectible doll known for its mischievous and fantasy-inspired design. It has achieved global popularity, especially through “blind box” sales, where buyers do not know which character they will receive until they open the box.

Since early 2024, Labubu has become a viral sensation, driven by celebrity endorsements and strong social media presence. Some rare or limited-edition versions have been resold for up to $3,000, fueling demand among collectors worldwide.

However, the toy’s immense popularity has also led to an increase in online scams. Cybersecurity researchers from Kaspersky have identified numerous fake websites impersonating official Labubu or Pop Mart retailers. These fraudulent sites offer “exclusive discounts” and limited-edition figures to deceive users into entering personal and payment information. Consumers are urged to purchase only from verified sources and remain cautious when shopping online to avoid data theft or financial loss.
