The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a three-month paid internship programme that will provide 20,000 graduates with practical work experience, with each selected candidate set to receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 30,000. The provincial government has proposed a budget of Rs. 2 billion to fund the initiative, according to an official announcement.

Under the plan, internships will be offered at industries, software houses and other organisations, with priority given to private-sector placements. Officials said this approach is intended to ensure that interns receive training aligned with current market requirements and the skills employers are actually seeking.

Eligibility will be limited to graduates who hold a valid Khyber Pakhtunkhwa domicile and have a minimum CGPA of 3.0. Selected participants will receive Rs. 30,000 per month over the three-month period, bringing the total stipend to Rs. 90,000 per intern.

The programme also includes a commitment to equal representation, with 50 percent of the positions reserved for men and 50 percent for women. Opportunities are planned across all districts of the province, with district-wise representation to be determined on the basis of population.

The Higher Education Department will develop detailed guidelines covering candidate selection, training and placement. The initiative is designed to help young graduates gain hands-on experience, build professional skills and improve their readiness for employment in competitive industries.

The announcement reflects a growing emphasis on bridging the gap between academic qualifications and market demands, with the provincial government positioning private-sector training as a route to stronger employment outcomes for graduates.
