The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a province-wide enforcement drive targeting vehicles fitted with fake, illegal or self-made number plates, with the deadline set for November 10. The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has directed owners of cars, motorcycles and rickshaws to install number plates officially issued by the department.
Vehicle owners who have not yet received their original plates have been asked to collect them from their respective district excise offices and display them before the deadline. The department said the plates must be visibly mounted on vehicles to comply with the new instructions.
Following the November 10 cutoff, authorities plan to take legal action against vehicles still carrying unauthorized number plates. The department warned that violators could face heavy fines, and that vehicles may also be confiscated in cases of non-compliance.
The move is intended to tighten vehicle registration records and curb the use of counterfeit or locally fabricated plates, which officials say complicate identification and enforcement. Motorists have been urged to follow the instructions promptly to avoid penalties.
Owners who are unsure about the status of their registration are advised to visit their district excise office before the deadline to confirm whether their original plates are ready for collection.
