Punjab Mandates Electronic Invoicing for Hotels and Restaurants to Boost Tax Compliance

The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has instructed all hotels and restaurants across the province to install the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System (EIMS), a move aimed at ensuring timely tax payments and improving compliance.

The directive was discussed at a meeting between PRA officials and representatives of the Hotels and Restaurant Association, where participants reviewed the installation process, technical requirements, and challenges businesses face in adopting the system.

The meeting also focused on bringing more hotels and restaurants into the tax net to broaden the province's tax base.

PRA Chairperson Moazzam Iqbal Sipra stated that issuing proper computerized receipts to customers is a legal requirement. He warned that businesses involved in fraudulent electronic invoicing practices would be closely monitored and face heavy penalties.

Sipra emphasized that cooperation between tax authorities and the business community could make the tax system simpler, more transparent, and more efficient. He added that expanding the tax net would encourage business activity and promote a culture of tax compliance.

Representatives of the Hotels and Restaurant Association assured the PRA of their full cooperation in efforts to improve tax collection and promote digitalization.
