RedMagic 12 Pro Goes Global With 185Hz Display and 8,400mAh Battery, but Pricier and Less RAM

The RedMagic 12 Pro has launched in international markets with a 185Hz OLED screen, Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset and an 8,400mAh battery, though global buyers pay more and get slower charging than the Chinese model.

RedMagic has brought its RedMagic 12 Pro to international markets, weeks after the RedMagic 12 Pro+ debuted in China in mid-October. The global release keeps most of the headline hardware from its Chinese sibling, but buyers outside China will notice two trade-offs: a higher price and slower wired charging.

The global model starts at $949 in North America. It retains the RGB-lit liquid cooling system, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, a 185Hz OLED display and an 8,400mAh battery, according to the company's specifications. However, international units support 80W wired charging instead of the 120W offered on the Chinese version.

The 6.85-inch BOE X11 OLED panel carries a 1.5K resolution and a 185Hz refresh rate, which RedMagic describes as an industry first. The screen features 0.96mm bezels, 1,900 nits of global peak brightness and 5,000 nits of local peak brightness, along with up to 5,000Hz instantaneous touch sampling. The selfie camera sits beneath the display in a full-screen design, and a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint scanner handles biometric unlocking.

Despite the larger battery, the handset measures 8.5mm thick, slimmer than the 8.9mm of its predecessor. It carries IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance ratings, while the cooling fan area has a separate IPX8 rating. RedMagic is offering the phone in two finishes: Nightfreeze, a transparent black, and Subzero, a transparent silver.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset works alongside the RedCore R5 gaming processor and a G1 display chip. The phone offers up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. Its AquaCore Cooling System 3.0 combines RGB-lit dual-loop liquid cooling, a 25,500 RPM fan, Liquid Metal 4.0 and a vapor chamber with a 15% larger effective cooling area.

The launch places the RedMagic 12 Pro in direct competition with other flagship gaming phones, where sustained performance and thermal management often matter more than camera hardware. For international buyers, the model delivers the same display and battery specifications as the Chinese version, but the reduced charging speed and higher starting price are likely to factor into purchasing decisions.
